2002 Symposium Proceedings just published

We are pleased to announce the release of proceedings from the 24th
Annual Symposium, titled Strength and Diversity in Social Work with
Groups: Think Group.  This collection of selected proceedings was
edited by Carol Cohen, Michael Phillips, and Meredith Hanson. This book
can be purchased directly from the Routledge website.

About the Book
How can groups effectively meet the needs of humans in areas as diverse
as aid, responsibility, action, healing, learning and acceptance? This
edited volume aims to address these issues and provide ways to extend
the current reach and quality of social work with groups.

Social Group Work Giant Alex Gitterman Receives Life Time Achievement Award

Alex Gitterman, a giant in the field of social group work and social
work and an esteemed leader and member of AASWG will be receiving this
year’s prestigious Council of Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Lifetime
Achievement award at this year’s Annual Program Meeting (APM). The
award ceremony will be held in Philadelphia at the Marriott on Thursday
October 30, 2008 during its opening ceremony beginning at 6 PM.

Dr. Gitterman served as President of AASWG for two terms and has been
an active board and executive board member of AASWG for many years.
AASWG has been among the most rewarding organizational affiliations
that Alex has had. He also chairs the group work section of CSWE and
serves as a Commissioner on the Commission on Curriculum and
Educational Innovation. Alex has worked tirelessly to maintain group
work as an integral part of social work education curriculum and
practice.
